
June 5, 2001 saw the release of Alicia Keys’ debut album “Songs in a
Minor.” Off the strength of its first single “Fallin’,” “Songs in
a Minor” sold over 50, 000 copies in its first day. Keys’ debut
album eventually sold over 10 million copies across the globe. Her
winning ways would continue at the 2002 Grammy Awards show when Keys
took home an astonishing 5 trophies in one night. Keys won the

Keys’ second major album release “The Diary of Alicia Keys” hit
record shelves on December 2nd, 2003. There were no
signs of the sophomore slump for Keys as her second album debuted in the
number 1 spot selling over 618, 000 copies in its first week. “The
Diary of Alicia Keys” would go on to sell over 9 millions copies
worldwide. The album’s first single “You Don’t Know My Name”
featured co-production from megastar rapper and hip hop producer Kanye
West. Like her debut album, “The Diary of Alicia Keys” was a
success at the Grammys. In 2005 Alicia Keys won 4 Grammy trophies.
Keys was awarded Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for “If I Ain’t Got
You,” Best R&B Song for “You Don’t Know My Name,” Best R&B Album for
“The Diary of Alicia Keys,” and Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group
with Vocals for her guest spot on Usher’s “My Boo.”
Alicia Keys Unplugged
Following “The Diary of Alicia Keys,” Keys would move on to her next
project the popular MTV series “Unplugged.” Keys’ performed and
taped her “Unplugged” special on July 14, 2005 at the Brooklyn Academy
of Music. The special was subsequently released on CD and DVD
October 11, 2005. Keys’ performance featured reworks of her hits
singles, mixed with a few cover tracks, and appearances from special
guests Common, Mos Def, Damien Marley, and Maroon 5 front man Adam
Levine.
